DeSantis announced during the press conference that a COVID-19 antibodies test will be available. The test can show if a person has had the virus in the past without showing symptoms, and therefore may be immune to it. The test will be available to first responders and health care workers first, with the goal of being able to expand testing to the general public. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) vowed to keep the state open despite Joe Biden’s suggestion of re-imposing lockdowns to curb coronavirus cases. During a press conference on Friday, DeSantis called the potential move “insane” and said lockdowns do more damage to working Americans.

“I can tell you, that ain’t happening in Florida,” DeSantis said. “We are not going to let him lock down Florida. I know they talked about restricting travel of Floridians. That’s totally unacceptable. We’ve said that from the beginning to even contemplate doing any type of lockdown. Honestly, it’s insane.”

DeSantis stated his administration will keep doing what works and will keep the economy and schools open. He added he hopes health officials will continue effectively vaccinating residents and that access to vaccines will be expanded.
